Midland, Texas

Midland, TX

Midland is a city in Western Texas with a population of 134, 610. Midland was founded in 1884 as a Midway Station on the Texas and Pacific Railway. It earned its name due to its central location between Fort Worth and El Paso. However, because there were already other towns in Texas by the name of Midway, the name Midland was given. Outside of its association with oil and gas development, Midland is also known as a home for the Bush family. It is the hometown of former First Lady Laura Bush, and once was the home of former Presidents George H. W. Bush and George W. Bush. Midland experiences long, hot summers and short, moderate winters. Outside of its theatres and museums, there is plenty to do in Midland. Some annual festivals and holidays include Celebration of the Arts, Rock the Desert, Septemberfest, and Christmas at the Mansion. If you’re looking for a sports game to attend, Midland is also home to the Scharbauer Sports Complex and Chaparral Center.
